I came across this contest today. Anyone out there with little ones should check it out. Since our dog ate our last ergo carrier, we don't have one for the new babe. I'd LOVE to win this - I carry our children everywhere (or, one of us does). It's so much easier than a stroller, and I think it really makes for happier, healthier babes. Afterall, they're both born in flu/cold season. People are a lot less likely to stick their germy fingers/faces in the baby's face when it's also 3" from your own.
Right now all we have is our moby wrap, which is awesome for around the house/sleeping newborns, but not so good once they get past about 15lbs. Wish me luck, y'all, and don't forget to enter yourself!!

About This Blog
The name of this blog was inspired by a collection of essays that I read recently which had a profound affect on my view of the world. The word Gaia comes from the name of the Greek goddess of nature, or, 'Mother Earth'. I am a Buddhist, and I follow the dharma to the best of my abilities in everything that I do. Recently, I've spent a lot of time in contemplation of the fact that we are all living as though we are outside of nature and the natural world, instead of as a part of it. We are not in competition with nature, we ARE nature. When we do anything, from making a sandwich, to birthing our children, we need to find the connections with the Earth (Gaia), and honour them. That, I hope, is what this blog is about, however indirectly.
Part of the reason that I keep this blog is that it is an exercise in mindfulness, a central Buddhist principle. By looking at my life as an outsider might see it, not only does it force me to see all of those moments that might otherwise be overlooked as we go about our busy lives, but it holds me accountable for the way I conduct myself (right action, right speech, from a Buddhist perspective).
Finally, I hope that by keeping this space for others to visit, meaningful discussions will arise. Perhaps by writing down my thoughts on the things that I focus on here (predominantly natural health, birth and childrearing, and Buddhist ideas), I will help someone to see something in a way that they never have before, much as the namesake for this blog did for me. So please, engage in the conversation, leave comments, or send me an email.
